Basic Bird Care class

Everyone interested in fostering or adopting a bird must attend our class on bird care prior to receiving a bird from us. These classes are free (although donations are appreciated) and are open to the general bird-loving public. If there is a location listed with no date, you may ask when the next class will be scheduled at that location by emailing class@mickaboo.org

The class covers these topics:
  • Proper avian care
  • Proper avian diet
  • Symptoms of illness and first aid
  • General husbandry
  • Taming and training

And much much more...

Criteria for adopting/fostering a bird from us can be found on our How to Adopt page.

We have basic bird care classes scheduled throughout the Bay Area in the North Bay, San Francisco/Peninsula, South Bay, East Bay, and Sacramento Area. For those who cannot attend a class in person, we occasionally schedule phone classes. During the shelter-in-place order, we will be offering videoconferencing classes instead of in-person classes.

Register:

  • To reserve your spot for an in-person class, email class@mickaboo.org with the location of the class, and class date, in the subject line. Walk-ins are welcome in most cases, but see details for each location below.
  • If you want to adopt a cockatiel (for example), please say so in the email so our instructor can be better prepared.

Online VideoConference Class

The next class will be held on Saturday, July 11, 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Our intent is to hold classes every two weeks during the shelter-in-place. Register for the class at least one day ahead of time.  The registration link is here.

The class will be held via webconferencing link to be sent to registered attendees on the morning of the class. Registrants must have internet access and either a smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer, to participate. Please plan on logging into the webconferencing link at least 15 minutes before the session starts, so that technical difficulties may be worked out.
