Hello, my name is Big Bird. My previous owner said he named me after the big yellow bird on the kid`s show Sesame Street. He wasn`t home a lot and felt I`d be happier in a home where I could get more attention. He found Mickaboo and asked them to take me in.

I am much more comfortable now than when I first arrived at my foster home. However, my foster mom said she would not yet call me well-socialized. I move away from people anytime they to go into my cage. I am most comfortable with the lady of the house.

"Mom" has been able to get me taste a pear from her fingers! I peck at it, but then decide that it is a little too close and move away. Mom will then leave it in my cage, and after the door is closed I will go get it. I am eating well. I get fruit and veggies and especially like the chard leaves from the yard that mom puts in my water dish. I like to dip it in my water as I eat it. I was changed from the seed/pellet mixture I was getting, to pellets only, since my Dr. said it`s hard to tell how much seed I was eating vs pellets.

My foster family put toys in my cage and I now have the hang of playing with them. I really like the shredder type stuff-typical of ringnecks. I was not doing that when I first arrived in foster care. I am learning to have fun.

I was plucking my chest, around my legs and under my wings when I arrived here. This behavior is decreasing, but sometimes you will still find some feathers on the bottom of the cage. I am doing better the more comfortable I get.

With a little more time, and lots of patience I can make a good pet bird for someone. Are you that someone?
