Hi, I`m Erin. I came to Mickaboo from the Dublin shelter. I am friendly budgie that loves flight time out of my cage. I love walking around my foster mom`s desk, playing with the various items I find. I am not afraid of my foster mom, and will land on her, although I`m not quite ready to step-up. If my cage isn`t open when *I* think it`s time to come out and play, I will try to open the cage door and take control of my destiny. Maybe there`s a little Houdini in my background? I am a very skillful flyer so my forever home will need to use caution whenever I`m out and about. Watch out for open doors and windows! I will land on your head, only to launch myself off again. Once I`ve had my fill of `exercise`, I will settle down and watch my people, often inspecting really closely by climbing all over and checking their reflexes with little nips and preening here and there. I eat a mix of pellets with a little seed, along with veggies such as lettuce, carrots, and greens. If you adopt me, I promise to be a great little companion and forever friend.
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
