Hello I`m Astro! I am most active in the morning & evening. I *love* my mirrors! I have 2 stationary and one that rotates and I spend equal time at all of them! If my foster mom spins the rotating mirror, I will hustle right over to check on my "friend" and make sure he is ok. I love to "sweet talk" my mirror friends. I do take naps during the day, so I might be a bit older that Mickaboo`s "default" age for me. I am fed Nutri-An cakes, pellets, seeds and greens, plus millet as a treat. I enjoy parsley, lettuce, spinach, beet greens & carrot tops, but not broccoli. I seem to prefer the pellets/seed to Nutri-An cakes; the first thing i do at feeding time is throw cake on the floor of the cage! I`ll go back to it eventually, though, and nibble at it. My foster mom has started trying to get me to come close to her to snag some millet, and I finally broke down and ate the millet she was holding outside the cage! Oh, by the way, I am missing parts of a couple of toes, but this doesn`t slow me down at all. Aren`t a a sweet sounding boy for YOUR forever flock?
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
