Hi, my name is Sprite, in honor of my gorgeous lemon and lime plumage. I`m a sweet and friendly young guy who comes to the hand I never nip, even when my foster mom takes me in gently in an ice-cream-cone hold to give me scratches. Some people who did not have an appreciation for my sweet nature, good looks and cheerful tweets dropped me off at the dog pound with no information on my age, name, daily routine or food preferences. My feelings were so hurt, and I was nervous and confused. But I settled right in at my foster home, and I sing happily during the day. I haven`t tried the herbs and veggies my foster mom offers, but I do hop over to look at them. I would love to join some other budgies, as we are flock birds, but I am ready to be a personable friend to a human. Won`t you please take me to YOUR forever home?
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
