Hi, I`m Ruth. But I am also called Lorelei! Why? I was adopted out but was somewhat aggressive with my cagemate so i was sadly returned to Mickaboo. I might be best as a single budgie.

I originally came to Mickaboo in September 2020 via the Santa Cruz SPCA. I am intrigued by people and engaged in my surroundings. I eat greens, wet lettuce or spinach are my favorites! I will eat millet from a hand, but I don`t step up quite yet. I totally and completely love flying. Around and around I`ll go! Another favorite activity is to drop - over and over and over again - toys and objects from a cup in my cage to the floor of the cage. I like to bathe in my drinking water. My favorite toys are mirrors and I am totally happy with a spinner toy comprised of a bunch of little mirrors. I love music and sing up a storm. I enjoy attention, being talked to, and people watching. When it`s bedtime, I`ll settle on my swing. I like my cage covered at night. I like a dim light left on and the comforting sound of a ticking clock nearby.

If you want a bird who will entertain you and one you can work with, I might be the single gal for you. Check out my video from the Mickaboo January 2022 adoption fair here!

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
