Quita Memorial Challenge Grant - Dec. 29 evening update

JolieOur current total is $9,811, about one-third of our $30,000 end-of-year fundraising goal! Your generosity during this Challenge Grant time (ONLY TWO MORE DAYS AFTER TODAY!) makes your gift go further than usual, helps you when you file your income taxes - and helps Mickaboo build a solid foundation as we head into the new year.

Jolie is one of the birds who benefits from Mickaboo's volunteers. Jolie is a lovely gray mutation Indian Ringneck girl. She went on an adventure outdoors and got lost. Lucky for her a nice lady found Jolie, saving her from an uncertain fate. Now she is in a nice Mickaboo foster home and living the good life, learning to love a great pellet-based diet and vegetables. Jolie is a really smart and curious girl, eager to learn new things. She also enjoys flying, napping, bathing, and whistling - and she's available for adoption!

Want to help Jolie and other birds like her before the matching period is up? One may give:

  • online, with a credit card through Network for Good

Quita Memorial Challenge Grant - Dec. 29 morning update

Our current total is $8,290, slightly over 27% of our $30,000 end-of-year fundraising goal! Donating during this Challenge Grant time makes your gift go further - and helps us build a solid foundation as we head into 2015.

SparkleSparkle is one of the birds benefitting from your collective generosity. She is a very young (we think around 4 MONTHS old) budgie who somehow escaped from her former guardian and, luckily, wound up at a shelter instead of becoming a predator's lunch or dying of starvation.  Most shelters are not equipped to handle avian medical emergencies, and this one was no different - so they called Mickaboo when Sparkle started bleeding from a broken blood feather.  Sparkle is just fine now - and is up for adoption!  (Email coordinator-parakeet@mickaboo.org if you're interested!)

Want to help Sparkle and other birds like her before time is up (only TWO more days after today!)? One may give:

Quita Memorial Challenge Grant - Dec. 28 evening update

Frida and RosieOur current total is $6,067, slightly over 20% of our $30,000 end-of-year fundraising goal! Your generosity during this Challenge Grant time makes your gift go further - and helps us build a solid foundation as we head into the new year.

Frida and Rosie are two of the birds who benefit from your collective generosity. They met each other during foster care, and became fast friends. They cuddle a lot and love to play with toys together. When they first met Frida couldn’t fly very well, but Rosie waited for Frida's wings to grow out and then taught Frida just how much fun it is to fly. They love to fly together around their foster parent's home, going back and forth and showing off their flying abilities. (Yes, they're up for adoption!)

Want to help Frida, Rosie and other birds like them before time is up (only 3 more days after today!)? One may give:

  • online, with a credit card or check, through Network for Good

$20/Adult, $35/Couple.  Pay online or at the door.ay at the door.

Transportation

  • BART - Use the Pleasant Hill station, and look for the party entrance on Treat Blvd.  You'll see us through the glass windows - can't miss us!
  • Driving? We have FREE underground parking on Sunne Lane.  As you enter Sunne Lane from Treat Blvd, the entrance will be on your right. It's a short walk within the building (which we'll aim to mark with signs) to get from the garage to our party.

If the underground parking described above is full (garage capacity is 80), the underground parking *across the street* on Sunne Lane will also be available.  At this "across the street" garage, you must remove your car by 10 pm (party officially ends at 9 pm).

Free parking is also available at the Pleasant Hill BART station.

Bring checks/cash (preferred) to buy raffle tickets, birdie supplies, holiday gifts, silent auction items, bake sale items, etc!  We will also have a limited ability to take credit cards via Square, and a laptop to take PayPal payments.

Dress code

If you would like to dress up for the occasion (many of us enjoy doing so), you're welcome to!  Casual attire is also ok.

Birds

We will have a small quarantine room set aside to facilitate the transportation of any foster birds in transit.  Birds are NOT allowed in the main party area.  If you plan on taking advantage of this, please email pr@mickaboo.org so we can make sure we will have enough room for all our feathered friends.

Bring

  • Party attendees always relish our potluck.  Mickaboo will supply a "core offering" of vegetarian / vegan / gluten-free dishes. Potluck items can be anything (and it will ALL be labeled) *except* fowl (for obvious reasons).
  • Bake sale items are also welcome!
  • If you are bringing a dish or serving utensils and want to make sure it gets back to you (lost-and-found always being a challenge), please put alabel with your name on your item.  Our registration desk volunteers will try to remind you about your "stuff" as you exit, but sometimes the memory doesn't quite work until we get home...
  • Have you saved feathers for Art for the Birds?  Bring them!  Put them in your car (or by the door) now!  We'll have a box at the registration desk.
  • Have you saved empty inkjet cartridges, old cell phones, or other small electronics for Mickaboo's recycling fundraising?  Bring them!  We'll have a (separate) box at the registration desk.
  • Bring your older clothing for our first-ever clothing drive!  The donation truck will be present 5:30 - 7:00 pm, in the garage behind our party. Tax receipts given on the spot!
  • Just like at many of San Francisco's and San Jose's stores, please bring your own bag for your purchases.  We'll have some on hand... maybe not enough...

Email any questions to pr@mickaboo.org. We look forward to seeing all of you!

GlobalGiving Bonus Day progress report - FINAL

Your collective generosity resulted in a total of donations and matching gifts of $21K - more than our $20K fundraising goal! The vet bills keep coming, so going over THIS goal is great news! We at Mickaboo are deeply humbled and thankful for your generosity.

We had 130 donors - not enough to win the "most donors" bonus grant, but certainly enough to show the wide breadth of interest in the birds in our care, and the work we do to help them find permanent homes.

Did you miss the matching gift event?  Online donations are always welcome at www.mickaboo.org (see the links at the left), or via check to:
Mickaboo
PO Box 697
San Jose, CA  95106

THANK YOU again for all your support - we truly could not do what we do without you.
